West Utah/Nevada Pyro Surveys

Ian: In 2016, a friend/mentor encouraged me to visit the Deep Creek Range in West Utah to try and follow up on some unconfirmed reports of tri-color snakes. The remote possibility of it being Utah Mountain Kingsnakes as was mentioned as the location is just outside their known range. The place has been charming enough that I've returned 1-2 times per year every year since (2 day drive from Seattle!). It may be a wild goose chase to seek pyros in the Deep Creek Range, however the camping/hiking in mid-May can be wonderful, and we are sure to find other reptiles.

Additional trip details will be emailed out in the weeks leading up to it.

Wild Country Advisory Age Restrictions and Liability
This trip will involve primitive dispersed car/tent camping, pooping in catholes, little to no cell/network access, packing in your own food/water/supplies, into a rugged mountainous desert about 70-80 miles away from the nearest gas stations (Wendover, Baker NV). Wendover and Ely have grocery stores, restaurants, and KOA campgrounds (power, water, garbage, showers) if they are needed. Mostly graded gravel roads with short drives up rugged canyon roads -- 4WD/AWD not required, 2WD vehicles should be fine. However, be wary of the dirt/gravel roads if there was a recent heavy rain as they roads can get soft and sloppy. Be advised that the rugged country can puncture tires, eat cars, and can leave folks stranded without cell reception for hours so PLEASE PLAN FOR IT. Children under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participation in trip activities could involve risk of physical injury, illness, death, or property loss, and despite safety precautions, we cannot guarantee safety as all risks cannot be prevented by us.
